In 2006 a group of community citizens from Grande Prairie approached the YMCA Management Resource Centre of the Prairies (MRC) office in Edmonton with interest in having YMCA programs and eventually a YMCA Family Centre in their community.
In September 2007, through partnerships with Peace Country Health and the Grande Prairie Catholic School Board, the YMCA of Edmonton began child care operations and has grown to three child care centres in Grande Prairie:
The MRC office continues to work with the Grande Prairie and District YMCA Advisory Board to meet more needs in their community.
